President Roosevelt announced that in his fireside chat to the nation over the radio on May 26, he would detail the progress of the 'preparedness programme. The broadcast probably will be made world-wide. President Roosevelt conferred with members of the Business Advisory Council, discussing in general terms the,industrial co-operation to be expected in defence preparations. It is indicated that some prominent members of the conference are likely to be named as liaison officers between the Government and industry. Mr Jesse Jones has asked Congress to authorise the Reserve Finance Corporation to help finance private companies acquiring strategic foreign materials —for example tin and rubber. Mi - Davis announced that the Red Cross was shipping a million dollars worth of relief supplies to Europe. A “Mercy Ship” is sailing from New York on June 1.

The Maritime Commission has approved the sale and transfer of J. P. Morgan’s yacht Corsair to Camper and Nicholson, Hampshire, England. The use to which the yacht is being put is not revealed.
