GIFTS & LOANS
IN AID OF AUSTRALIAN WAR EFFORT. POURING INTO FEDERAL TREASURY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Gifts of money and interest-free loans are pouring into the Commonwealth Treasury from all over Australia. The Federal Premier (Mr R. G. Menzies) announced that outright gifts to aid the war effort total £76,000. The Federal Treasurer (Mr Spender) said the total of interest-free loans was £356,910, including £300,000 from a Sydney'family group whose members wish to remain anonymous.
