RED CROSS APPEAL
LOCAL CANVASS ALMOST
COMPLETED.
STOCK DRIVE AND OTHER
DONATIONS.
The main part of the canvass of the Borough and County areas for cash donations to the Sick, Wounded and Distressed Fund appeal of the Joint Council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society and Order of St John has now practically been completed and no further appeal will be made, although the committee will accept donations at the office in Page’s Buildings at any time. The Stock Drive is now the main source of expected, revenue or donations and Mr P. G. Ramsay has this matter well in hand for the sale on Wednesday next, May 29. In addition to donations already mentioned, another well-known farmer handed the committee a cheque for £ll6, being the proceeds of the sale of 100 fat sheep at the works.
Further £5 donations have been coming in to swell the fund and some who had already given smaller amounts have sent in enough more to make their total donation £5. The committee expresses its sincere thanks to all who have helped with the appeal, either in collecting or in giving, as the response has been very gratifying. The total for the local appeal reached today was £1340 15s 3d.
