WRESTLING
A BRISK BOUT. O'CONNOR BEATS CORBETT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Dan O'Connor beat Joe Corbett on points, one fall each, in a brisk wrestling bout at the Wellington Town Hall last night. Corbett obtained the initial fall with a cradle-hold, after preliminary jolts and tosses, in the fifth round. He tried to do it again, but ran into a flying tackle, and a drop-kick, after which O'Connor took a fall with a reverse octopus clamp and surfboard, an ingenious hold not hitherto seen in Wellington. AUCKLAND CONTEST. KATAN BEATS RAINES. AUCKLAND, May 20. John Katan, the American professional heavyweight wrestler, made his first appearance in Auckland tonight when he favourably impressed a fairly large crowd by beating Dick Raines, also of America. Katan obtained the only fall of the match in the fifth round.
