ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. “War news from China,’ ’the official organ of the Universal Esperanto-As-sociation (Geneva), and the 1940 Universal Year Book of the Esperanto movement were displayed by the Masterton Esperanto Club at its weekly meeting held last night at 10 Cambridge Terrace. Mr A. G. Wiltshire presided over a good attendance of members.

The secretary (Mr W. H. King) reported that during the past weekend he had been in personal touch with the general secretary of the New Zealand Esperanto Association at Wellington, Mr D. Kirk, regarding Esperanto matters in the Dominion. The parent body was fully occupied with its work despite the war conditions and very gratifying results are being obtained. The enlistment of three officers had placed additional tasks on those remaining, but the New Zealand Esperanto Association was smoothly functioning in its work of fostering Esperanto within the Dominion. The introduction of Esperanto into one Wellington college and two public schools had been achieved, and the language had received sympathetic consideration at the Technical Schools Conference held recently in Christchurch. The organising of the Uth New Zealand Esperanto Congress at Wanganui during next New Year is also proceeding and it is anticipated tnat the congress will eventuate as decided by the 10th Congress at Wellington.
