POSITION SERIOUS AT SOME POINTS ENEMY DRIVE IN REGION OF CAMBRAI. FURIOUSLY RESISTED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) PARIS, May 20. A War Office spokesman said: “The general situation remains serious, even grave at certain points, but has not been considerably modified during the last 24 hours. We have repulsed all enemy efforts during the past 24 hours at other parts of the front. “The position on the western front this morning may be summed up as follows: —The strategic movement of the Allies’ left wing in northern Belgium continues. We are furiously resisting German attacks eastward of Cambrai. The German push westward of Cambrai continues.” Five German planes dropped several bombs on Dieppe on Saturday, killing one person and injuring another. EUIDER’S FATE NAZI PLANE SHOT DOWN in flames: WHILE BOMBING REFUGEE STEAMER. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 19. A German aircraft which attempted to bomb a steamer carrying over 700 refugees to England from Belgium was shot down in flames by anti-aircraft fire from the ship. The story of the attack and the bringing down of the raider, which took place early yesterday evening when the steamer was in the North Sea, was told today when the refugees, the majority of whom were women and children, landed at a Channel port. Two planes attacked the steamer and five bombs were dropped. All fortunately missed their mark. The gun on the steamer fired many rounds, and one of the bombers was seen to be hit when at about 1000 feet. The plane burst into flames and crashed into the sea. The second machine then turned tail.
