The Featherston ladies' bogey competition played yesterday afternoon resulted as follows: —Mrs Connell 1. Mrs R. Donald and Mrs Lovegrove (equal) 2, Mrs McCarty 3. Reduced handicap: Mrs Connell. 19/14. MISSIONARY FUNDS ENJOYABLE SOCIAL. A very happy time was spent in the Presbyterian Hall on Tuesday when a social was held, the proceeds of which were to be devoted to Missionary Funds. Songs were rendered by Mrs W. Houston, Miss Joan McKenzie and Messrs I. Gordon and D. Robertson. A quartet by Mrs Houston, Miss McKenzie and Messrs Gordon and H. C. Hunter was very much enjoyed. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Arch Clark. The gathering was brought to a close with community singing and supper.
Personal Items. Mrs F. C. Benton, who recently underwent an operation, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mrs C. Munro, of Auckland, who has been visiting Mr and Mrs J. H. Buck, has returned home. Motor Registrations. It has been noticed that many- wise motorists are registering their vehicles now, in order to avoid that last-min-ute rush. Perhaps it would be a good move if many more would adopt this practice and thus save time. National Party Dance. The National Party’s dance in aid of the Red Cross appeal funds, to be held on Tuesday night next, promises to be a great success. Miss Jean Donald, the popular secretary, has the arrangements well in hand and all that is needed to make the dance the success that is hoped for is the patronage of the public. A Good Road. A motorist recently traversing along the Western Lake Road was astonished to see such a splendid surface. Tar dealing operations have now been car; ried out as far as the Wilkinson homestead, while the rest of the road surface for many miles is in first-class condition. Petty Thieving. Several cases of petty thieving have been reported lately, cases of petrol 'stealing being very much in evidence. This is a despicable theft, as the unfortunate victim may have exhausted his supply of coupons for the month and is not in a position to replenish his supply. Outbreak of Distemper. The outbreak of distemper which has been raging among dogs in Featherston and the surrounding districts for the past few months seems to be abating. Several valuable animals, however, have succumbed to the disease, despite the fact that many have been inoculated. Boxing Club. The Featherston Boxing Club has unfortunately had to go into recess this season, owing to the lack of patronage and the scarcity of boxers. It is sincerely hoped that the club will function again next year.
