TAKEN CALMLY BY PEOPLE MR CHAMBERLAIN SETS EXAMPLE. LABOUR PARTY DECISION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, May 10. The British public learned the first news of Hitler's latest aggression from a 8.8. C. bulletin at 7 a.m. The news spread like wildfire. After momentary dismay, Englishmen regained their customary poise, of which Mr Chamberlain gave a most striking demonstration. Accompanied by his wife, Mi Chamberlain walked in St. James Park for twenty minutes and returned to Downing Street before 10 a.m. The Belgian and Dutch envoys- visited the Foreign Office. Messrs Attlee and Greenwood made a statement: "The Labour Party is convinced that a drastic reconstruction ol the Government is necessary in order to win the war, but confronted by the latest series of abominable aggressions by Hitler, reaffirms its determinations to do its utmost to achieve victory and calls on its members to devote all their energies to this end and to stand firn and united through whatever trials and sacrifices lie ahead.”
It is officially stated that arrangements have been made to assist in the evacuation of British subjects from Belgium and Holland.
