WILLING TO SERVE IN ANY CAPACITY IN NEW GOVERNMENT
LABOUR PARTY TO BE REPRESENTED
IN MINISTRY
The lit Hon Winston Churchill has become Prime Minister, following’ on the resignation of Mr Neville Chamberlain from the offices of Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, Daventry reports. Mr Chamberlain’s resignation was accepted by the King, who invited Mr Churchill to fill the position. The Prime Minister desires all Ministers to remain at their posts and to discharge their functions with full freedom and responsibility while the necessary arrangements for the new administration are made. Mr Chamberlain, in a broadcast from No 10 Downing Street, announced that he would serve in office under Mr Churchill and called for a united effort to meet the new situation. The Labour Party announced that it was willing to serve in a new Government and under a new Prime Minister. The French Cabinet has also been reconstructed, with M. Reynaud retaining the Prime Ministership and representatives of all political parties are serving under him.
