GERMAN SHIPS

SEIZED IN DUTCH EAST & WEST INDIES ATTEMPTS AT SCUTTLING PREVENTED. CREWS ARRESTED & INTERNED. In the Netherlands East Indies, 19 German cargo ships which had taken refuge in Dutch waters there have been seized and the crews interned. Daventry reports. In the Dutch West Indies attempts were made to scuttle three German ships, but quick action by the authorities saved the ships and the crews were arrested. One man who resisted was wounded.

In Switzerland, Daventry reports, the President asked the people to remain calm. General mobilisation has been ordered for this morning and the defences on the German frontier have been strengthened.
