The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Health, is expected to return to Wellington from Auckland tomorrow. The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, will return to Wellington today from the South Island. Messrs C. A. Banks, Auckland; M. Pearce, Wellington, and N. F. Beales are at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, today. Mr Eric Green has arrived in New Zealand from Samoa and is visiting Mr and Mrs E. J. O’Leary, Cornwall Street, Masterton. Mr Green formerly resided in Masterton. Sir Alfred and Lady Ransom, Dannevirke, and Miss Jean Cavaghan ■Wellington, are spending the weekend in Masterton as the guests of Mr and Mrs A. P. Bennett, Renall Street. Mr C. G. Scolon, who has been manager of the Courtenay Place (Wellington) branch of the Bank of New South Wales for the past 18 years, is retiring at the end of this month, after 46 years’ service with that institution. He is being succeeded by Mr G. D. Campbell, who was for some years attached to the bank’s inspectors’ office, Wellington. The staff of the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive ' Distributing Co., Ltd., assembled at the close of business today to make a presentation to Mr. E. R. Wingate, who is proceeding to Eurnham Camp next Tuesday. On behalf of the staff, the manager, Mr. S. J. Gill, handed Mr. Wingate a wristlet watch, and wished him the best of luck and a safe return.

The returning officers for the New Zealand Workers’ Union have announced the results for elective positions for the 1940-41 period. The successful candidates for the main positions are as follows: —National president, Mr R. Eddy (Wellington) (re-elected); national vice-president, Mr A. Wathey (Gisborne); general secretary, Mr A. Cook (Wellington) (re-elected); delegates to conference, 'Messrs H. Caldwell (Inangahua), W. Coppersmith (Greymouth), F. J. Burnell (Blenheim), J. Wright (Upper Moutere), H. Cameron (Dunedin). A. A. De Vantier (Alexandra), J. R. Harrison (Hollyford), H. McCahon (Paritu), H. Maynard (Manutuke), G. Bravery (Whangarei), F. L. Fenton (Auckland), F. E. Lark (Auckland), W. Brooker (Paki Paki), A. McCormac (Hastings), M. Murphy (Palmerston North). R. Tutaki (Hastings). M. Eaton (Kaikoura), A. J. Hamilton (Christchurch), P. J. Kelly (Woolston), J. G. Leckie (Timaru), and W. F. Shilton (Kerepeehi).
