MUNICIPAL BAND

YEAR OF FULL ACTIVITY

TRAINING OF BOYS’ CLASS,

ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. •

The annual meeting of the Masterton Municipal Band was held in the Savage Club Rooms last evening. Mr M. Paris presiding Over a good attendance. -The meeting was followed by an enjoyable social hour.

The report of the secretary, Mr B. Rickards, which was adopted, stated that the past year had not been an easy one owing to the extra duties imposed on the band by war conditions, and the further depletion of the ranks by the resignation of seven members. Five of these had accepted employment in other towns, and the remaining two had answered the call io arms. In addition two ex-members of the band were proceeding overseas with the Second Echelon .and the band’s best wishes for a . safe and speedy return were extended to them. During the year new uniform trousers were purchased from a local firm at a cost of £46 10s. The present tunics were also showing signs of much wear and new tunics would further improve the appearance of the band on parade. Thanks were again due to Mr W. G. Lamb (treasurer) and to Mr A. D. Low (auditor) for gratuitous services so freely given. The splendid support accorded by the Masterion Borough Council, the Press and the public of Masterton was also gratefully acknowledged. The conductor, Mr G. Hutchinson, had recently commenced training a class of some 27 boys and it was hoped that gaps in the ranks of the senior band would thus be closed. The committee met on 22 occasions, 93 practices were held find the band paraded publicly on 36 occasions. During the year the amount owing to Iho Contest Fund, £l4 15s lOd was repaid.
