FUTURE OF MEMORIAL PARK

PROPOSAL TO VEST AREAS IN BOROUGH UUUNUIL.

COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION

ADOPTED.

The chairman, Mr H. P. Hugo, presided over the monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust held last night. There were also present Messrs A. Owen Jones, H. H. Daniell, R. Krahagen, J. H. Handyside, R. Page, E. G. Eton, J. Macfarlane Laing and C. E. Grey. Accounts for £35 10s lOd were passed. The summary of balances showed a credit balance of £1315 19s lid. The Men's Division, St John Ambulance (Masterton branch) wrote thanking the Trust for past grants and applied for a further grant this financial year. The request was deferred until the estimates meeting.

A deputation was received from the Masterton Headteachers’ Association, represented by Messrs J. W. T. Jones. J. P. Farrell and E. G. Coddington concerning the way in which the headteachers considered the Trust could best help with grants to school committees and for stationery, scholarships, physical education, library and visual education..

After an informal discussion it was decided that further consideration be given the representations at the estimates meeting.

A special report was submitted by the secretary tracing the work of a joint committee of representatives of the Masterton Borough Council and the Trust set up to consider plans for planting and ways and means of developing' Memorial Park as a sports ground. After consideration at a meeting held recently of a report submitted by Messrs H. E. Gardner and L. Robinson, on the motion of Mr E. G. Eton, seconded by Mr H. P. Hugo, it was resolved “that this meeting of representatives of the Trust Lands Trust, Masterton Borough Council and Masterton Beautifying Society consider its desirable that the Camcron and Soldiers’ Memorial Park be vested in the Masterton Borough Council as a sports ground, provided that satisfactory financial arrangements can be made with the Trust Lands Trust for the carrying on of the park as a sports ground.” The resolution was considered at last night's meeting, and it was decided that the Masterton Borough Council be offered the park subject to certain conditions.

Trustees referred to the value of the land, and were unanimous in considering that it would be of more value as a sports ground, under the direction of the Masterton Borough Council. Reference was made to the practical assistance of the Masterton Beautifying Society in recent discussions.
