CHANGES EXPECTED

CONSIDERABLE POLITICAL STIR IN BRITAIN

Mr Chamberlain Has Full Day of

Consultations MEETINGS AT No. 10 DOWNING STREET OPPOSITION LEADERS CONFER WITH MINISTERS Throughout the country everyone has been discussing the House of Commons debate and possible changes in Cabinet, Daventry reports. A present quickening in the political situation is evident everywhere. There is certainly a feeling in the air that big things are going on. In widely different circles there is a feeling of encouragement that the desire for a more vigorous prosecution of the war has become more vocal all over the country. Various deductions and speculations are rife. One firm fact apparent is that the British. Prime Minister, Mr N. Chamberlain, had a full day of consultation. One meeting was held at No 10 Downing Street, where Mr Chamberlain received Mr C. R. Attlee and Mr A. Greenwood, leader and deputy-leader of the Labour Party. It is'•understood that both Lord Halifax and Mr Churchill were present at this meeting. On the streets all these comings and goings and possibilities of a reconstruction of the Government or changes equally momentous are being discussed. Names specially mentioned are those of Lord Halifax and Mr Winston Churchill. A far more vital factor is the attitude of the Labour Party, which has refused to serve under a Government led by Mr Chamberlain. It is likely that more will be known about Labour’s attitude after that matter is discussed at the conference to be held early next week.
