Knight (Palmerston North), R. Lovegrove and J. Sutton (Pirinoa), N. A. Hume (Featherston), were at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton. yesterday.

Misses Gwen and Mary Pither, of Masterton, are visiting Wellington, where thej’ are the guests of Mrs A. E. Townsend, Miramar, and will attend the annual ball of the Queen. Margaret’s College Old Girls' Association tonight.

Major S. M. Satterthwaite. N.Z.S.C.. commandant of the District Military School, Burnham, has been appointed second in command of the 25th (Wellington) Battalion, and will take up his new duties at Trentham next Tuesday. Captain R. J. Eyre Avill fill the position vacated by Major Satterthwaite.

Appointments, of officers to the Second Echelon of the Second Ncav Zealand Expeditionary Force are announced in the Gazette issued last evening. The list contains the names of lavc officers Avith the rank of brigadier. They are Brigadier J. Hargest. D.S.O. M.C.. and Brigadier H. E. BarroAVclough, D. 5.0.. M.C.. the commanders of the sth Infantry Brigade and the Gth Infantry Brigade respectively.

The Rev. Father P. Timoney. who for the last 18 years has been attached to the Roman Catholic Cathedral. Barbadoes Street, Christchurch (for the last eight years as administrator). Avas given a presentation by Cathedral parishioners at a well-attended gathering in the school hall this week. Father Timoney has recently taken control of St. Joseph's parish. Papanui. The chairman of the Cathedral Parish Schools’ Committee, Mr. Peter O’Connell, presided and he and other speakers praised the work Father Timoney had done for the parish and its parishioners.
