TASMAN AIR MAILS

LATER CLOSING TIMES AGREED UPON.

(By Telegraph—Press Association./ WELLINGTON. This Day

Later closing times in Wellington and Auckland for mails for outward dispatch by the trans-Tasman airmail service were announced last evening by the Postmaster-General. Mr Webb. When stating recently that the transTasman airmail would cose at midnight. on Fridays in Dunedin. Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland, the Minister's predecessor intimated that if it was found in practice that later closings could be made action would be taken accordingly. Mr Webb said that as the result of experience in dispatching the first two mails cutward it was possible to provide later closing times in Wellington and Auckland. In future, the trans-Tasman airmail would close in Wellington at noon on Saturdays and in Auckland at midnight on Saturdays (instead of at midnight on Fridays in each case). Due to the lack of connecting' services it would not be possible to close the mail in Dunedin and Christchurch later than at present (midnight on Fridays), but throughout the North Island the closing times would be co-ordinated to fit in with the new closing times fixed for Wellington and Auckland.
