DOG TRIALS
MEETING AT TE ORE ORE
LONG HEAD EVENTS.
GOOD PROGRESS IN SPITE OF RAIN.
. Tiic Masterton Collie Club's annual dog trials are being held today in driving rain on Mr Geo. Shaw’s property at To Ore Ore. Good progress was made yesterday, the maiden and open long head events being run off. The sheep arc rather light to work, and the keen wind yesterday resulted in the work being rather below standard as ine points indicate. A start was made on the short head and yard last night, five dogs competing before dark. A total of 34 entries had been received in this event up till lunch time. There is a good attendance of spectators to watch the trials. - Among the visiting competitors are Messrs. C. W. Thom (Weber): F. Wilsher (Hukanui); W. G. Smith (Paekakariki); and T. Burton (Apiti). Under the capable direction of the secretary, Mr. C. J. MacDonald, and the president, Mr. J. M‘. James, assisted by the treasurer. Mr. W. F. McLaren, 'the committee are working assiduously. Mr. S. F. Herbert, of Pongaroa, is acting as judge. At. a meeting of the executive committee last night it was decided to carry on with the usual dance held by the club, but to allocate the proceeds to the Patriotic Funds. The date of the . dance was fixed for June 5. and the co-operation of the Mastertoil Young . Farmers' Club was sought. Further < arrangements will be made at a subse- ■ qiient meeting. ]
