REQUEST TO HUNGARY
PASSAGE FOR GERMAN TROOPS REPORTED BY OFFICIAL AGENCY. DEFENCE PREPARATIONS IN j YUGOSLAVIA. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, May 8. A message from the correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain at Budapest says the official Hungarian News Agency states that Germany has asked the Government for permission to send troops through Hungary. A correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain in a message from Rarek says Yugoslavia is calling up more classes to reinforce the 300,000 troops guarding the YugoslavItalian and Yugoslav-German frontiers. Crowded troop trains are arriving a Ljubljana and Maribor, while trenches and tank barricades are being constructed for miles behind the permanent defences. More than 600,000 Yugoslavians are reported to be under arms, though Yugoslavia has not yet officially mobilised. REPORT A MISTAKE ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS. (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) BUDAPEST, May 8. Officials now describe the reported request for permission for German troops to march across Hungary as a mistake.
