MOTHER’S DAY Next Sunday, May 12 Remember Mother, she never forgets you. Mother’s Day, which is being celebrated every year with greater enthusiasm, is being observed this year on Sunday, May 12. Since the revival of this old English custom in the United States, and its official recognition by the Federal Government, churches and social organisations have strongly supported its observance, and are endeavouring to turn the sentiments embodied in Mother s Day into useful and practical channels. In common with many other countries, New Zealand has not been slow in expressing its appreciation of the sentiments behind the observance of Mother s Day. As a case in point, the Y.M.C.A. has for many years taken a special interest in its celebration by holding a Mother and Sons’ Tea. The remembrance of Mother on this one day a vear provides an occasion of real friendship for the whole family, one on which Mother is honoured with gifts as a token of love and respect, a day when the churches try to reveal mankind’s debt to motherhood and womankind generally.
