HIDDEN BROOCH

A MILLINER’S DISCOVERY

A Wynberg woman’s hatmaker received a hat for alteration recently, and on removing the lining discovered a valuable diamond and gold broach, states a South African paper. The owner of the hat knew nothing about it and considered it a lucky Christmas present, for someone had given her the hat.

Inquiries from several jewellers proved the brooch to bo worth £5O. It has several gold arms, each studded with a diamond, and was probably hidden away in the lining for safety or as an act of generosity by a rich woman. An effort is being made to communicate with the previous owner of the hat. but it is doubtful whether her whereabouts are known.
