BOWLING
PARK vLUB’S ANNUAL RcPORI.
VERY PROSPEROUS SEASON.
The annual report of the Park Bowling Club for the 1939-40 season, which is stated to have been a very prosperous one for the club, states: —
“We were fortunate regarding the weather, and full advantage was taken of the good conditions prevailing. On the whole the season was a very favourable one for our summer pastime. The club championship games were again a source of much interest and keen contests were witnessed. The following were the winner's of the various contests:—Champion singles, R. H. Simpson; champion pairs, A. Osborne, E. Bell (s); champion fours, J. Wilder, H. Carr. H. W. Thompson, J. G. Shear-, er (s); Thompson Cup, H. M. Smith; Spackman Cup (colts), C. Andrews; Crafts Medals, W.' Ferguson. W. L. Butler, E. J. Burke. A. E. Kilgour (s); Keatley Medals. H. M. Smith, E. Brown (s); McEwen Feathers, W. Gibson, A. Osborne (s). The Bell Shield, Mutrie Cup and Wall Cup which were competed for between the Masterton and Park clubs, were again a source of much keen and healthy rivalry, and I am pleased to report we hold all three trophies at present. In connection with the Wall Cup, which is confined to colts, a special word of praise is due to several colts who participated in these games during the season. We are pleased to see our young members making such a good showing, and wish them well in the future. The usual triangular games for the Kean Trophy, between Lyall Bay, Featherston and Park Clubs, were held and were much enjoyed by all who took part. Featherston won on both occasions. Delightful weather was experienced when the Manawatu Centre paid their annual visit to the Wairarapa Centre. In the morning the Park Club had the honour of entertaining the visitors on our greens, when a very enoyable time was spent by all. In the afternoon the official games between the centres took place on the Masterton’s Club’s greens, the Manawatu Centre winning by a narrow margin. Unfortunately we were unable to return the visit owing' to bad weather. “It is with very sincere regret I record the sad loss we have sustained by the death of our esteemed life member, the late Mr C. Wilton. Mr Wilton was a keen supporter of the club from its inception. The autumn top-dress-ing of our greens has been completed and present indications of their condition give us the hope that we shall have a good playing surface-next season. Members will see from the attached balance sheet that the club continues to prosper financially, which is very gratifying. The membership also compares favourably with last year, but there is still room for more members. and members are urged to try and increase our numbers. Much valuable work was performed during the year by several members, and our best thanks are due to them for their assistance. I would take this opportunity of thanking our hon secretary, Mr A. Osborne, the hon treasurer, Mr W. Gibson, the publicity officer. Mr E. Burke, the selector, Mr H. W. Thompson and members of the committee for their loyal support and co-operation. Thanks are also due to the Borough Council, the Park Custodian. Mr Sturgeon. and his staff for assistance so freely given, and to the Press for publicity. I also wish to thank one and and all for their support during my third term of office, and for the kindness and consideration shown to me at all times."
The report is signed by Mr R. Wallace. president. The annual meeting will be held in the Y.M.C.A. on Monday night at 7.30 o'clock.
