NOVEL FEATURES
DISCOVERED IN GRAF SPEE. DISMANTLING IN PROGRESS UNDER DIFFICULTIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, May 5. The Buenos Aires correspondent of the “New York Times” says that the dismantling of the Admiral Graf Spee is proceeding under great difficulty and secrecy. It has revealed, several novel features of construction to naval experts employed by a British firm which is understood to be the sponsors of the local purchasers. Divers discovered the existence of a hidden. anti-aircraft gun in the bows which can rapidly be uncovered by means of complicated mechanism. An analysis of the deck plates showed that they are made of an alloy steel which has not yet been identified. Rust-proof plates protected the Diesel motors and other mechanism.
A range-finder apparatus was lost as a result of a storm. The wreck is at present broken in two parts. A large quantity of shells was found unexploded in the fore part of the pocketbattleship.
