GAME IN MASTERTON WEEKEND COMPETITIONS. SOME GOOD PLAY WITNESSED. • Some good play was in evidence in the golf club competitions which took place at the weekend. MAHUNGA CLUB RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S PLAY. The best net scores returned on Saturday for a medal round were:—N. Jones, 67: J. Corbishley, 69; J. Norrie. 69; G. T. Wagg. 69; M. Armstrong. 71; N. Bach. 71; C. Sandlick. 71; R. C Simpson, 71. The best scores among the ladies, were: —Miss N. Yates, score 100, handicap 36, total 64; Miss I. Rudd. 100—3” —65; Miss M. Holtham, 98 —30—68; Mrs. Turner, 104 —36 —68; Mrs. Madsen. 10. —31—71: Miss N. Smith, 95—22—73; Miss E. Calwell, 97—22—75. MASTERTON MEDAL COMPETITION RESULTS. A medal competition played by members of the Masterton Golf Club on Saturday resulted as follows: — A grade: J .Donald, 74; E. B. Booth, N. H. James, 75; E. Henderson. 76; F. Candy and L. Kibblewhite, 77. B grade. J. C. Forsyth, 69; H. Falloon, 70; J. A. Card, 72; N. H. Prior, 73; E. Nitz. J. H. Cunningham. 75; H. H. Daniell. 76; J. E. Falloon, 79. RIVERSIDE CLUB BOGEY COMPETITIONS. A bogey round played by the Riverside Club on Saturday afternoon resulted in a tie for Messrs R. Wearne, W. Gilliland and F. Hallam, 1 up each. Other cards handed in were: L. Roff, 1 down; J. Thornton, 2 down; A. Bell, 2 down: N. Hoar, 2 down; C. Leigh, 2 down. The ladies' competition resulted: Mrs Rawlins, 5 down; Mrs Palamontain, 5 down (tied); Mrs Naan, 6 down; Miss Selby, 6 down; Mrs Brown, 6 down. BIDEFORD CLUB SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED. There was a fair attendance at the official opening of the Bideford Golf Club over the weekend. Mrs J. R. Nicholls and Mr Jock Bell won the foursome competition played during the afternoon. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies’ committee. In the course of his remarks the president, Mr C. J. Percy, referred to the several year’s service given as secretary by Mr Ray Falloon, who with several other members, is now overseas with the New Zealand Forces. In wishing the club a successful season Mr Percy commented on the many difficulties confronting the country clubs owing to the war. NEW LINKS OPENED GATHERING AT BLAIRLOGIE. The official opening of the new Blairlogie golf links took place during the weekend. Mr R. Liverton, in his opening remarks, said that great credit was due to Mr Peet for the hard work he had put in to gel the greens and fairways in readiness for the opening day. All the greens were in good order and trie fairways had been cut. This work had been done by Mr Peet.

Visitors were present from all parts of the district and also from Timaru, Wellington, Woodville and Dannevirke.

Afte’’ welcoming the visitors Mr Liverton called on Mrs M. Peet to drive the first ball. Later in the afternoon a ninehole medal round was played and the best card handed in was that of J. J. Evans, of Wellington, who now holds the course record with a score of 35 off the stick. ,
