ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB.

SEASON SUCCESSFULLY OPENED.

Eight riders turned out on Saturday when the Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club opened its 1940 road season with a trial run of about 12 miles. The attendance was disappointing as far as new riders were concerned, as this ride was decided upon mainly to endeavour to foster the interest of young persons owning sports cycles, in the racing game. The following riders were present—A. Morris, R. Copp, J. McAliece, K. Gilbert, J. Heaven, G. Simpson, J. Brader and K. Woollett. Following the ride, members were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs Copp at their residence, 7 Elizabeth Street. Masterton.

Next Saturday will see the opening of the racing season with a 12-mile massed start race, run under sealed handicap conditions.
