WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

OPAKI MEETING. COMPETITION WINNERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The May meeting of the Opaki Women's Institute was held at the home of the president, Mrs. A. Beelham. The report of the Wairarapa Federation Council meeting in April was read and discussed. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation of Mrs. Neil McKay, past secretary of the federation, in acknowledgment of her work in organising the federation and in assisting Institutes. Mrs. Miller Hope, assisted by Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Snowsill, gave a' most .interesting talk, illustrated by piano and vocal examples, on British music. Mrs. Hope and the vocalists were warmly thanked by the president. It was decided to combine with other Institutes of the group in a patriotic effort on Thursday, May 23. This is to take the form of a dance in the Masonic Hall. It was reported that members could attend a lecture to be given in the Y.M.C.A. on Friday May 10 at 2 p.m.. by the Sarah Anne Rhodes Fellowship holder on Women's Organisations Abroad.

The motto competition for the year was won by Mrs. Harris.

The points prizes were presented to Mrs. Wyeth. 1: Mrs. Rayner. 2; Miss Rollo, 3.’

The monthly competitions resulted: Sewing, Miss lorns. 1; Mrs. Buick, 2; Mrs. Wingate, 3. Flowers: Miss lorns and Mrs. Cooper (tie) 1; Mrs. Buick, 3. The competitions for the next month will be a garment for a child 4 to 6 years of age, and the best flower. The June meeting will be held at Mrs. Wingate's house. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Harris. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
