WOMEN’S DIVISION

MAU RICEVILLE-IHURAU A

ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS.

The annual meeting of the Maurice-ville-Ihuraua branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the Mauriceville East Hall when Miss Heckler presided over a good attendance.

The balance-sheet showed the finances of the branch to be in a very satisfactory state.

The president thanked the committee and members for their unfailing support throughout the past year, which had been rather a busy one. Grants had been made whenever necessary to provide a housekeeper or nurse in homes. In one case a layette had been provided by the branch. A donation was also made to the children's ward of the Masterton Hospital for Christmas cheer. The croquet set given by the branch had been very much appreciated at Kianga-Moe. Mrs. W. H. Cheetham’s special trophy for the most points gained in competitions held through the year was won by Miss E. Dagg. Mrs Nicholaison's trophy for the best parcel of clothes suitable for refugee children went to Mrs. Trass. Each member brought one of these parcels, and altogether 84 garments were donated.

The best bloom was shown by Miss Dagg. During the afternoon opportunity was taken to make a farewell gift..to Mrs. Freeman, who will leave shortly to live in Wellington. Miss Heckler, in making the presentation, expressed regret at losing a foundation member. Miss Heckler was.again unanimously elected president, Miss E. Dagg. reelected secretary. Delegates were elected to the council and to the Dominion conference.

It was decided that each member should provide a parcel of small useful articles to be forwarded to the Red Cross Society as Christmas gifts for refugee children. The honorary librarians reported that the library continued to be well patronised. Several members offered to donate more books, and it was decided to hold a fruit cake competition shortly to raise funds with which to buy new books.

At the conclusion of business members adjourned to Mrs. Scherf's new home, where a pleasant time was spent.
