4 . CANTERBURY CLIP. J REALISATION FOR SEASON. ’ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. Paymen,t of £78,321 will .be made to Canterbury farmers as the result of the fifth and final main wool appraisal for the province this season. The offering was of only 5047 bales, i and was considerably the smallest for the season. The total number of bales sold this , year under the appraisal scheme was 85.770, of a gross value of £1.455,330. or just under £l7 a bale. Last. -year. 99.209 bales werb sold at a total of £1,255.095. so that this year the return from 13.439 bales fewer has been greater by £200,235. Final figures for the fifth appraisal were announced today by the secretary of the Christchurch Woolbrokers' Association as follows: —Weight (lb), 1.582.603; value, £78.321; average price (a lb). 11.887 d; a bale, £l5 10s 4.38R1. The following table gives a comparison of figures for this and last season: Bales sold. 1939, 99.209, 1940. 85,770; total realisation. 1939, £1,255.095. 1940. £1,455330; average a bale 1939. £l3 0s 7d. 1940, £l6 19s 2d.
