MEN’S & LADIES’ GOLF SATURDAY’S COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following is the draw for the men’s second medal round and eclectic competition to be played on the links on Saturday next: —No. 1 tee —Goodin and Fisher. Those not included in the draw will arrange their own partners and commence from No. 17 tee. The following is the draw for a stableford and bogey round to be played on the Carterton links on Saturday: No. 11 tee—Miss Welch and Mrs Colson; Mrs Callender and Miss M. Smart; Mrs Orr and Miss M. Campbell; Miss Berrill and Mrs Harrington; Mrs Candy and Mrs Moroney; Mrs Murray and Mrs Forbes; Miss Anderson and Mrs R. N. Campbell: Miss Armstrong and Miss N. Renall. No 9 tee—Miss J. Booth and Miss P. Renall; Mrs Ross and Miss Freer; Miss Lamb and Miss I. Corlet; Miss Peters and Miss Hamer; Mrs Orr and Mrs Gustofson; Mrs Pointon and Mrs Goodin. No. 8 tee —Miss V. Corlet and Miss Shankland, Miss Lane and Miss Beaven; Miss McFarlane, Mrs Hindley and Miss Sorensen. Mrs A. T. /Murray and Mrs R. N. Campbell will be in charge of the afternoon tea. BOY SCOUTS WEEKLY CARD PARTY. The weekly card party in connection with the Carterton troup of Boy Scouts was held last evening. There was a fair attendance and the prizes were won by Mesdames J. Brovin, F. Jack-' son, Hemi and C. Holland. Supper was afterwards handed round. Vital Statistics. The following are the vital statistics for April, the figures for the corresponding month last year being given in pareptheses: —Births 14 (7), Deaths 3 (3), marriages 3 (4). Ingleside. For some months past a ladies’ com- / rnittee has been working hard for the purpose of raising funds for the purchase of uniforms for members of the Wairarapa Scottish Pipe Band. On Monday evening next an Ingleside will be held in the Masonic Hall, and it is hoped the efforts of the ladies will be rewarded with a croy/ded house. Painting the Post Office. A start has oeen made with the painting of the Carterton Post and Telegraph office. Shooting Season. The game shooting season will be opened on Saturday next. Many sports in and around Carterton have made preparations for the opening day. Reports state that there are plenty of birds available. Schools Vacation. The schools under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Education Board will close on Friday next for a fortnight's vacation, and will re-assemble on May 21. Personal Items. Messrs E. McKenzie (Carterton) and Norman McKenzie (Napier), left Carterton yesterday to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union which is being held in the Exhibition building, Wellington, today. Mr Geo A. Vincent and his daughter, Mrs W. Moroney, who have been on holiday in the north, have returned to Carterton. Baby Carnival. In connection with the South Wairarapa Baby Carnival the positions of the leading candidates are now as follow:—No. 12, 961; No. 24, 910; No. 51, 705; No. 11, 582; No. 6. 577; No. 15. 281; No. 13, 275; No. 38, 257; No. 20. 226. County Council Meeting. A special meeting of the Waira'rapa South County Council is today framing the estimates for the current year. Card Tournament. “'"•Arrangements are being made for a card tournament to take place at an early date in Carterton between a combined team from the Masterton Friendly Societies and members of the Carterton Friendly Societies. Football Fixtures. On Saturday the Wairarapa Rugby Union’s championship matches will be commenced. In Carterton. a senior and third grade match will be played on the local Showgrounds. The senior game will be between Carterton and Red Star and this should prove to be a very interesting and willing contest. Mr W. Grantham will, be the referee. The third grade match will be controlled by Mr H. J. McKenzie and the teams will represent the Dalefield and Gladstone clubs.
