TEACHER RETIRES .PRESENTATION TO MISS i EDWARDS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Pahiatua-Bush branch ot the Women Teachers' Association met on Saturday evening at the residence ol the Misses Wilson, Eketahuna, to bid farewell to Miss L. Edwards, ol the Newman School, who is retiring. Among the visitors were Mrs Fouhy (Dominion President), Miss Sellar 'Dominion Secretary), Miss Wiggins (Masterton president), and Miss McKenzie. During the evening, Miss D. Junker, ol Pahiatua, contributed two much appreciated vocal numbers. Miss.C, Wilson, president of the Fahiatua-Bush branch, in making the presentation of a book to Miss Edwards. paid a tribute to her conscientious work as secretary for some years and to her services as a member of the branch. Mrs Fouhy, on behalf of the Women Teachers’ Association, gratefully recognised the assistance and encouragement given by Miss Edwards to those working for the welfare of the schools. Miss Edwards in reply, stated that anything she had done in connection with school activities had been a pleasure. She expressed her thanks for the present, and for the honour which had been accorded her. OBITUARY MRS HANNA LEMBERG. Mrs Hanna Lemberg, whose death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs J. H. Gerrand, was a native of Sweden and was born at Winslaf 8L years ago. She married the late Mr C. V. Lemberg at Barritt, Denmark. They landed-at Wellington 44 years ago. Mr and Mrs Lemberg took up their residence at Hukanui where they engaged in farming for some years, later removing to Kakariki. On the death of her husband 12 years ago, Mrs Lemberg settled in Eketahuna. The funeral took place at the Eketahuna Cemetery, the service being conducted by Bro. R. Lozenby (Jehovah’s Witness), Wellington. The pall-bearers were: Messrs F. E. Lemberg (son), Colin Harding, C. Falkner (son-in-laws), C. Gimlett, T. Golder and A. Bryant. Brownie Entertainment. On Saturday afternoon the Brownies gave a very enjoyable entertainment to their parents, friends and the Girl Guides. The main item was a fairy play, the chief performers being Kathleen Ryan, Alma Ryan and Shirley Ives. Other items were: Song, Kathleen Ryan; piano solos, Joanna Anderson and Shirley Ives. The Brownies then partook of refreshments while seated round the huge mushroom. After the adults had been provided with afternoon tea, Mrs Fraser (president of the Girl Guide Committee) thanked the Brownies for the presentation of the play, and for the invitation to be present at the entertainment. Miss K. Herbert (Brown Owl) suitably replied on behalf of herself and Miss H. Fraser (Tawney Owl). Personal Items. Mr and Mrs W. Steer and family were visitors to Wellington during the weekend. Mr and Mrs F. Preston, Parkville, were visitors to Wellington at the weekend. Mr B. Bradley has returned home from a visit to Wellington. Miss P. O’Regan spent the weekend in Wellington. Mr W. Hornblow left Eketahuna yesterday to attend the R.S.A. Conference in the capacity of delegate for the Eketahuna branch. Mr J. E. Williams, of the Post Office staff at Eketahuna, is relieving at the Alfredton Post Office, Miss Doyle, postmistress at Alfredton. being on leave. Mr F. J. Dunham, of the Post Office staff, is relieving at the Tiraumea Post Office. Miss Pickett, the postmistress there being on leave. Mr W. J. Smith, of the Telephone Exchange staff at Eketahuna, has received notice of his transfer to Pongaroa.
