Fighting Services Fund.

A further contribution of £l6 from the staff of the Masterton Borough Council to the Fighting Services Welfare Fund is acknowledged. Vital Statistics.

The Masterton United Friendly Society Dispensary has agreed to loan a sum of £250 to the Government for the duration of the war .and for six months thereafter. Indoor Basketball.

There were several exciting matches at the practise held in the Masterton Y.M.C.A. last night by the interhouse indoor basketball teams. Several matches were drawn, and in others only small margins separated winner and loser. From the keenness in eviden co a successful season seems assured.

Cycling Club’s Dance. There was a large attendance at the Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club’s dance held at Cooper’s Barn, Opaki, last night. The music was supplied by the Blue River Orchestra, extras being played by Mr Tehuka. The duties ofTvi.C. were capably carried out by Mr Pal Ward. A recitation was given by Miss Peggy Jeft’rons, of Palmerston North. The Monte Carlo competitions were won by Mr E. Colban and Miss L. Hopkins, and Mr P. Condon and partner respectively. The success of the dance was due in no small measure to the work of the joint secretaries. Messrs C. A. Greenwood and K. Woollett. Other dances will be hold in the near future.

Y.M.C.A. Card Evening. The second of the series of bridge and five-hundred evenings, arranged by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. will be held in the Association Hall tomorrow evening, at 7.45 o’clock. In view of the excellent beginning made a fortnight ago and of the continued interest that has been shown, a large attendance is anticipated. As before, the hall will bo comfortably heated and patrons will be assured of a really sociable evening, together witli an enjoyable time at the game of their choice. Suitable prizes will be awarded and a further announcement made regarding the proposed aggregate prize to be awarded later in the season. Supper will be provided at no extra charge.
