RUGBY FOOTBALL.
OPAKI CLUB NO TRAM THIS YEAR. "Touchline” writes as follows: Hr.v--j rig Inst eleven players who arc now I in Hie New Zealand military forces, ' some in Egypt and Hie others who i will depart later 1o join their old i football mates, it was found imposI sible for the Opaki Club to get a team i together ibis season, consequently the club is now oul of existence. We have ! turned out some good players and had other clubs not taken our best footballers wo would probably have had the finest senior team' in Wairarapa. I wish to extend our thanks to all those good sports who have helped us financially and otherwise. Our hope is that we may see all our boys safely back from overseas. 'To the secretary of the Union, Mr E. McKenzie, I wish to extend my thanks for the manner in which he has helped mo whenever I have appealed to him. also to the chairman and member.-; of the Rugby Union. Tn the “Times-Age" I wish to say, "Many thanks for your kindness extended to us on all occasions.'' Our thanks are due to the Referees' Association by whom we have always been excellently treated. I sincerely hope that the Rugby Union will bo able, under adverse circumstances, to carry on successfully this season, but it rests witli lhe public who must patronise the games, otherwise that great old Wairarapa Rugby Union, which has in days gone by, produced some of the finest footballers New Zealand has ever seen, will sink into oblivion.
