STOCK MARKET

ADDINGTON SALE. PRICES FIRMER YESTERDAY. i (By Telegraph—Press Association.) I CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. I Smaller entries again caused a firmI ing in prices at the Addington sale toI day. The holding of the sale a day earlier was the outcome of Anzac Day falling on Thursday. The store sheep sale was the best since the ewe fair season. An improved feed position was the main factor in the recovery, and last week’s advance continued, with a rise of 2s to 3s for the fine-woollcd slorts. Farmers came freely on the market as a result of the improved feed position. There was little change in the prices for coarse-woolled sheep. Fine-wooled owes brought 20s 6d and 24s 3d; and four-ycar halfbreds 12s 3d to 12s 4d. with failing-mouthed sorts at 7s 4d. The best wethers brought about 15s, an improvement of 2s to 3s. Forward rape lambs sold at 19s 3d, and medium at IGs 6d. The . fat lamb entry of which the quality was poor, dropped from a total of 1200 to 800. Butchers sorts sold up to Is above the schedule rate's. Freezing works' buyers were active at the schedule rates. In the fat sheep section an "entry of 5000 was forward, a small proportion being prime wethers. All classes appreciated in price. Prime wethers were better by Is to Is Gd. The scarcity of butchers’ sheep caused a firming of up to 2s a head for the primest sorts. Best-quality lines brought from 28s to 325, with the tops going at 35s lOd.

Well-finished steers were in freer demand. and good cattle met with an appreciation of 10s to 15s a head. Where the quality appealed, butchers competed actively. Good beef made 36s to 38s a 1001 b. Medium to heavy steers made £ll 15s to £l5 15s. with rough down to £8 10s: best heifers £lO 10s, medium £6 10s to £8 ss. and light £6. Cows made from £5 10s to £l3 2s 6d. A small entry of porkers was forward and there was little change on last week's values. Porkers were in short supply, baconers in medium, and choppers in heavy. Choppers made £3 to £6. Porkers made from £2 5s to £3 —an average price a lb of 7d to 7,1 d. and baconers made £3 5s to £5 8s —an average price alb of 6j ! d to
