EKETAHUNA

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL BIENNIAL REPORT OF i COMMITTEE. , I ("Times-Age” Special.) i The biennial report of the committee of the Eketahuna District High School slated inter alia: —The roll oil the Primary Department has remained reasonably stable during the period under review, but we regret that the anticipated increase in the secondary department did not eventuate, but a decrease occurred, particularly in the last year, with the consequence loss of one of the staff. The rolls at present are: Primary, 149; secondary. 48. Several changes occurred in the staffing during the period under review. Mi- Wilson resigned from the position as headmaster at the ed of last year, his place being taken by Mr A. B. Fordyce, of Tuakau, Auckland. Pending the arrival of Mr Fordyce, Mrs Henderson was once again called upon io act as headmaster. During 1938, the Misses O'Donnell, D. Briggs, Mrs Sayles-Reed, and Mr Hamilton were appointed to the staff, and Miss Meyer returned io the staff as Mrs Hamilton. Mr Hamilton resigned towards the end of this year. During 1939, the Misses Ross (infant mistress), O'Donnell, Stevens and Mr W. Leith were appointed, and Mr Wilson (headmaster) and Mrs Hamilton > esigned. During 1940. Mi A. B. Fordyce (headmaster). Miss E. J. Neiduer, Messrs J. A. Rigden and H. J. Kocrbin were appointed, and Mrs Sayles-Reed, Miss Neiduer and Mr Kverbin were transferred. We desire tc place on record our sincere appreciation for the very capable manner in which the headmasters and staff have and still are carrying out their duties. The committee have endeavoured tc maintain the grounds in a reasonable condition, and have pleasure in reporting that both playing areas are looking exceptionally well at present. A grant has been made by the board for the top-dressing of the tennis courts, but owing to the war situation the contractor is having difficulty in se-; curing materials. The repairing and extension of Iho other paved areas at the primary department is receiving attention, and a tender has been secured and sent forward to the board for this work. The school bus has ma intained a punctual service during the period, nevertheless, we regret having to report that our efforts in having the Hukanui, Kaikariki, Nireaha and Rongokokako route established as a separate route has met with no success. The position remains as it was two years ago. most unsatisfactory to all concerned. The powers that be. evidently do not appreciate the position that some of the pupils of cur school are placed in. The committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the efficient manner in which the dental clinic nurses have carried out their duties in regard to pupils attending from our school. The staff generously staged two fancy dress balls, during the period, both functions proving very popular. The funds cf the school benefited considerably from these two efforts and we wish to record our sincere appreciation to the staff for their efficient organising. Committee members' wives am.t friends assisted with the supper arrangements at these functions. The finances of your committee are fairly satisfactory as will be shown when the balance sheets are read. A surplus of about £3O still remains in the School Jubilee Surplus Fund Account.
