FEATHERSTON
RETURNED SOLDIERS ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The annual meeting of the Featherston branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association was held on Saturday evening, when about fifty members were present. Messrs R. Whyborn (president) and A. C. Prentice (secretary) of the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers' Association were presen (. Mr Whyborn occupied the chair until the election of the president. The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr H. Lawson; vice-president, left to the incoming committee to appoint; secretary, Mr J. Halpin; treasurer, Mr H. C. Hunter; auditor. Mr K. N. Allen; committee, Messrs F. S. Hayes. J. W. Fellingham. G. S. W. Lowell, A. R. Robbins. G. Julian, F. White, C. Corlet and J. H. King; delegate to Wairarapa Association, Mr A. R. Robbins. Messrs Whyborn and Prentice addressed the meeting on the work of the Association. Red Cross Society. The local branch of the Red Cross Society is appealing for gifts of clothing, sheets, towels, underwear, and dried fruits for Finnish refugees. The gifts may be left at the depot which is open on Wednesday and Friday afternoons or with the secretary. Anzac Broadcast. Yesterday the scholars of the primary and high schools were able to listen to the broadcast by the Hon W. E. Parry on “Anzac,” through courtesy of, Messrs T. G. Hardie, F. Hayes (headmaster), and J. W. Holland (chairman of the school committee) who arranged for the sets to be placed in the school.
