SAVAGE CLUB ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR YEAR '"Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Carterton Savage Club there was a very good attendance of Savages. Four new members were proposed. The first part of the evening was occupied by a Korero programme, the Irwin quartette- contributing a wellappreciated item. Past Chief H. G. Keenan singing two solos in his usual finished style, and Savage C. Baynes giving a realistic rendering of "Dangerous Dan McGrue.” Past Chief Stent and Savages S. Rooney and H. Bruce gave a well-performed- sketch, and this brought the entertainment part to an end. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Big Chief, Savage A. D. Taylor; Deputy Chief, Savage S. Rooney; Chief Scribe, Savage H. T. Leete; Assistant Scribe. Savage A. Tankersley; auditor. Savage D. L. Taverner; Chief Priest of the Butteryhatch'. Savage H. Pointon; Kaiwhakahaere. Savage L. Darke; Musical Director. Savage J. L. Harris; Dramatic Director, Past Chief W. F. Stent; Council of Braves, Savages H. Bruce, C. K. Goodin. R. Rabbits, C. At the close of the meeting an adjournment was made to the butteryhatch. where hot supper was partaken and the toasts of the newly-elected chief, the newly-elected council, the retiring council, and the retiring Big Chief were heartily honoured with the time-honoured Tribal Lyric. BABY VOTING POSITION OF CANDIDATES. The votes recorded to date in connection with the leading candidates in the Carterton contest which is being conducted at the Regent Theatre by the St. John Ambulance are as follow: — No. 24, 595; No. 12, 448; No. 51. 377: No. 11. 370; No. 6, 283; No. 32. 224; No. 13. 164; No. 1, 160; No. 15, 151; No. 3, 145. ORDER OF DRUIDS TOTARA LODGE MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids was held last evening, A.D.. Bro. H. Murrell presiding over a good attendance of members. Prior to the business of the lodge being commenced, members stood in silence for a brief space out of respect to those members who fell in the Great War of 1914-18.
Members were reminded that they are expected to parade at 10 o’clock on Thursday morning at the lodge room for the purpose of being present at the Cenotaph when the district president will place the lodge wreath there in memory of the deceased soldier members. Members were advised that where a maternity benefit is given through the Social Security Department they are not entitled to claim it through the Lodge also. Committees for the annual ball to be held on May 27 were appointed and the prices of admission were fixed at 6s double. 4s men and 2s 6d lady. Udy’s Dance Band has been engaged to supply the music. A combined meeting of ladies and members will be held later. Sick pay amounting to £2O 17s 8d was passed for payment. It was reported that Bro. C. E. Blake, of Waitara. had entered New Plymouth Hospital and had undergone a further operation. He is reported to be progressing favourably. NEW METHODIST MINISTER induction' service. The induction of the new Methodist Minister, the Rev. J. A. Daglesh,- will take place in the Methodist Church, Carterton, on Thursday evening. -' Farewell Social,.’ There was a crowded .hall at Dalefield last evening when kettlers from all over the district gathered to say farefell to Mrs. H. H. Knowle.s and Miss Jean Knowles, prior to their departure from the district after' many years ofresidence and who had during their long association with Dalefield played their part in the advancement of the district and rendered excellent service in connection with socials, etc. Mr L. J. Fairbrother on behalf of residents, made presentations to both the departing guests. He referred to their excellent'personal qualities and. the loss Dalefield would sustain' in their departure from-the district. However it was pleasing to know that they were not going far away and that their many friends would still be. able to meet them. It gave him great pleasure to present Mrs. Knowles with a chiming clock and Miss Jean Knowles with an eiderdown quilt.
Those present then sang, “For they are Jolly Good Fellows.” . The recipients both feelingly returned thanks. The music for the dance was provided by Mrs. V. J. Ashton and Mr. Harding.' Extras were played by Mrs. L. Rogers and Mr. E. Hughes. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. S. Gallon and a spot light waltz by Mr. M. J. Parker and Mrs. L. Parker. Supper provided by the ladies of the district was much appreciated. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a most enjoyable gathering to a close. Parkvale Social Club. There was a large attendance at the Parkvale Hall last evening, when a euchre party and dance was held in aid of funds of the club which will benefit financially as a result thereof. The euchre prizes were won as follow: Ladies, Mrs. Les Rayner 1, Mrs W.
Adlam 2; men, Mr. M. Renal! 1. Mr. Alex Oliver 2. Music for the dancing was provided by Udy’s Dance Band, and much appreciated extras were played by Mrs. E. Ward and Miss M. James. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. B. Renall and Mr. M. Renall and a Lucky Spot waltz won by Miss J. Warrington and Mr. K. Walker. Mr. C. Jensen, Junr., was an. efficient M.C. Supper was provided by the ladies. The weekly card parties- and ping pong games will commence on Wednesday week. Personal Items. Constable. W. C. Robertson and Mrs. Robertson and daughter, who have been on holiday, have returned to Carterton. Mr. .and Mrs. J. Stringer, of. Napier, are visitors to Carterton and are staying- with Mr. Stringer's mother. Before returning home they will visit Wellington.. Constable B. Watson and Mrs Watson ■left today on a holiday,-which is to be spent at'Paraparaumu.Mr. and Mrs. C. E, White, of- Rhodes Street. Carterton, have returned home after .a - pleasant holiday spent in Christchurch. Mr. W. Stoodley, an old resident of Cartertori, who'has been-an inmate of Grey town Hospital for some time, has returned home.'. Constable Anderson, who has been, relieving at Carterton for three, weeks, returned to the Central Station. Wellington, this morning. ■Blacksmith Business to Close. . Mr. J? W. Tomlin, blacksmith mid farrier, who has been in business ,;in Carterton for some years past, will after April 30. close his business premises. . ' •
