FORTY-EIGHT HOUSEHOLDERS • ATTEND. STALLS FOR BICYCLES. ("Times-Age’’ Special.) There was an attendance of 411 householders at the annual meeting of householders held in the Carterton District High School building last evening. Prior to the meeting of householders, the outgoing committee met to complete the past year's operations. Mr. H. J. McKenzie was elected to the chair and said he was pleased to welcome a good attendance of householders including .many ladies. He was glad to know by their attendance that interest in the work of the School Committee was appreciated. The headmaster's report was read. It showed that there were 362 primary pupils attending school and 52 secondary. The inspector's report was in every way favourable and the school enjoyed top grade. In his report, the headmaster macle an appeal to householders for more books toward the School Library. He also stressed the question of a Home and School Association as an excellent adjunct to the school. The treasurer's report disclosed a credit balance in the General Account of £6O 3s 10s. and of £2l 18s 3d in the Special Account. The chairman's report on the activities of the school during the past period was also read, covering the activities of the school and pointed out that several changes had taken place in the school teaching staff and everything was working most satisfactorily. It was pleasing also to note that, pupils who had gone forward from the school to the training .college had been appointed to positions on the school stall’ from which they received their early education. All the reports were unanimously adopted. The chairman announced to the meeting- that for the fourth time in succession their treasurer had been complimented by the Education Board officials for the excellent way in which he had submitted his balance sheets. This was received with applause. The question of the cycle stalls for the children's bicycles was mentioned by the chairman. Tenders had been called and accepted by the board over two years ago. but the successful tenderer had forfeited his deposit rather than go on with the work. The committee had made repeated applications to have the matter gone on with but without success, but lie was glad to be able to say the question was again being considered and that ere long the want of a cycle shed and stall would be an accomplished fact. ELECTIONS OF COMMITTEE. Eleven nominations were received for nine seats. Thos elected were:—J. A. Finn. W. E. Knowles, A. G. Rabbits. C. K. Goodin. P. L. Beere, B. E. Clarke, H. J. McKenzie. G. Stark. R. I P. Williams. I The chairman, referring io the presence of the Member for the district Mr. B. Roberts, said he was glad to see he was interested. Regarding the cycle stalls for the school, he had no doubt Mr. Roberts would use his best endeavours with the Minister for Education to push the work along. This Mr. Roberts promised to do. A vote of thanks to Mr. J. A. T. Stevens was proposed for his long association on Carterton School Committees for the past 31 years and it was agreed that same bo recorded on the minutes. NEW COMMITTEE MEETS. The new committee met after the householders meeting, when Mr. 11. J. McKenzie was re-appointed chairman. Mr. W. E. Knowles secretary and Mr. J. A. Finn, treasurer. It was resolved that the committee meet on the first- Monday in each month. It was notified that the annual meeting of the Carterton Call' Club would take place on Friday next, and the following delegates were appointed:— Messrs H. J. McKenzie. B. E. Clarke. R. Williams, E. James and A- F. Clark. The chairman reported a short service would take place at the School at 10 o'clock on Anzac Day, Thursday next. scciation was made unanimously. . Mr Shearer outlined the advantages of such an association, especially when a new school was in view, and his remarks were endorsed by several others. It was stressed that an association was most desirable, as it gave the parents an opportunity of making contact with each other and with the teaching stall and pupils, to the benefit of the children and also a chance to materially help the committee by raising funds. Messrs W. A. Clarke. R. N. Shaw. Whittaker. J. Renner, A. Wellington end V. Burridge were appointed a committee, a meeting to be convened as soon as it was thought desirable. Mr Shearer gave an assurance of the fullest co-operation of the committee. Referring to Dental Clinic affairs. Mr Clarke (who is secretary of the clinic) said he thought the parents were beginning to realise the value of the clinic. Although there was still room lor improvement, the position was better during the last year or so. He v. as very pleased with the co-opera-tion he had received from the headmasters of the various schools. At a meeting of the committee held subsequently. Mr Shearer was re-el-ected chairman.
greytown EQUIPMENT AND GROUNDS. MANY IMPROVEMENTS EFFECTED (“Times- Age” Special.) There were 12 persons present at the householders meeting at Greytown last night. The biennial report submitted by the committee stated that many improvements had been made to the equipment and grounds during the past two years, including a wireless and loud speaker, a new duplicator, and a new motor grass mower. The introduction of the supply of milk to the pupils was much appreciated. The headmaster reported that the roll numbers had been maintained and that the secondary department had now reached 50, which is a record. The garden work done by both the primary and secondary pupils had been excellent, all the available ground being under cultivation. A vote of thanks was recorded to Mr J. W. Herod who did not seek nomination. Mr Herod has served on the committee for 12 years. No election was necessary for the committee, as the required number only were nominated, these being: Messrs H. G. Carter. F. Dennes, E. J. Galyer. W. Gregg. G. R. Robinson. H. C. Trotman. J. D. Morison. W. G. K. Wiggins and Mrs Knell. It was recommended that the committee consider connecting the school with the telephone. The new committee mot after the general meeting when Mr H. G. Carter was re-elected chairman. Mrs Knell secretary, and Mr F. Dennes treasurer. Five applications were received for the position of caretaker and Mr W. Higgison was appointed. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr J. Burden for his past services. The committee decided to arrange a trip to the Centennial Exhibition next week, and providing sufficient support was forthcoming a special train would run, leaving Greytown at 7.45 a.m. and departing from Wellington on the return journey at 6.50 p.m.

He expressed his thanks to the committee for the manner in which they had all worked so well together, and also to the teaching staff. The following were elected to the ; committee: Messrs C. Buck. There was a very small attendance at the householders meeting held lasi night at the Martinborough School.
The chairman, Mr Griffiths, read the report and in doing so he commented on the help the Home and School Association Committee had been to the school committee for the past two years. He specially recorded thanks to Mrs Burch, the retiring president of lhe Home and School Association. The school committee for the ensuing two years is as follows, no election being necessary:—Messrs H. L. Griffiths (chairman), K. Arthur (secretary), Sadd (treasurer), R. Lawrence, G. Cotter. F. B. Wright, McNally and A. Beveridge. Mr Griffiths expressed regret at the Resignation of Mi' R. Burch, in whose place Mr A. Beveridge was elected to the committee meetings of the committee will be held on the first Monday in every month at 7 p.m. Mr G. RESOLUTIONS OF PROTEST. BOARD'S ATTITUDE CRITICISED. . (“Times-Age" Special.) The biennial meeting of houschold- ! ers was held at Eketahuna last night, v hen the ehairman of the committee. Mr H. E. Greathead, presided over a fair attendance. Mr Greathead extended a hearty welcome to all present. The balance sheet which showed a credit balance was adopted without d'scussion. The secretary’s report was adopted. In moving the report and balance sheet, the chairman congratulated the secretary (Mr S. Daniel) for the way he had presented his report. He also welcomed on behalf of the householders, the new headmaster, Mr Fordyce, to Eketahuna, and hoped his stay in Eketahuna would be pleasant as well as beneficial to the children. Mr Fordyce suitably responded. There were eight nominations for Hie seven seats on the committee and the successful candidates were: Messrs H. E. Greathead, S. Daniel. R. Gallagher, ,1. Tolley, K. Murray. R. Farrow and H. E. Rogers. After discussion the following resolutions were carried unanimously:— ‘That this meeting of householders protest strongly against the inconsideration of the board in relation to various urgent requests made by the committee.” “That this meeting of householders further protests to the board concerning the lack of provision for the extension of lhe proposed bus route covering the Nireaha, Kaikariki, Rongokokako and Hukanui districts.”
It was decided to send copies of the forgoing resolutions to the member for the district.
At a subsequent meeting of the new-ly-elected committee, Mr H. E. Great- ■ head was re-elected chairman unopposed, and Mr S. Daniel was re-ap-pointed secretary unopposed. Both briefly returned thanks for the confidence reposed in them. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr R. Payne thanking him for his interest in school affairs, and regretting his inability owing to business reasons, to seek re-election to the committee. TE WHITI Messrs W. Patrick, W. Rogers, W. Bradley.
