Immediately after being sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment for larceny in the Central Police Court, Thomas Drury, aged 29, drew a razor-blade from his pocket, and, in full view of everybody, slashed his throat from ear to ear. He then collapsed in the prisoner's dock. Police rendered first aid and rushed Drury, who had been declared to be tin habitual criminal, to hospital.
