MASTERTON GUN CLUB
OFFICIAL OPENING SHOOT. The official opening shoot of the Masterton Gun Club was held on the club grounds. Te Ore Ore, on Saturday. With an entry of 14 shooters, two of these being visitors. Mr R. W. Sargent of Danncvirke. and Mr Warren of Pirinoa, the programme consisted of three nine-bird matches at clay targets with a 'double rise’ for the final match. Mr W. H. Saunders, president of the club, welcomed all members and extended to them best wishes for a successful season. He also referred to the unfortunate accident which had fallen Mr R. J. King, whose assistance and guidance had helped the club over a record number of years. Mr Saunders said he felt quite sure that every member wished Mr King, a speedy recovery and that his activities in the Gun Club would be resumed in a short space of time. The first match was won by W. 11. Saunders, who shot the possible nine birds. Second place in this match was divided by nine shooters with eight breaks. 11. K. Smith. F. Taplin, A. Warren. J. W. Curtin. J. Gallagher. C. E. Grey. F. Allen. 1,. Meredith. D. McKenzie. Seven breaks: G. Brotherton. J. Laurenson. No. 2 match: W. H. Saunders, IL K. Smith. J. W. Curtin, C. E. Grey. D. McKenzie, all shot the possible nine birds. G. Bretherton. F. Taplin. J. Laurensin. J. Gallagher, F. Allen. L. Meredith had eight breaks. No. 3 match: G. Bretherton. H. K. Smith. D. McKenzie, all shot the possible. F. Allen. L. Meredith. R. W. Sargent had eight breaks. The double rise resulted in a win for D. A. McKenzie after a shoot-off with W. H. Saunders.
