EKETAHUNA
TESTING OF COWS FURTHER PROOF OF VALUE ("Times-Age” Special.) The effects of caw testing is becoming more evident each season in the Eketahuna district and our progressive farmers are firmly convinced that the i nly reliable method of sorting out the “duds” in a dairy herd is by testing. The results achieved over the season provide further evidence in this direction. At one time ridiculed to some extent, herd testing is now taken seriously by those farmers who model their activities on lines that wilT produce the most profit. No dairy farmer who desires to receive the greatest profit in the business of dairy farming can afford to keep "boarders" in his herd: consequently Eketahuna farmers are culling' out these undesirables from their herds. The dairy industry is increasing m importance in the Eketahuna distiict, and those farmers who are conducting pig raising in conjunction therewith are receiving their just reward lor the foresight and enterprise displayed. In the near future the number of dairy herds in the district will be substantially increased, while it is predicted that the operations of the. herd testing Association in the district will be extended.
NOTED FOR ENTERPRISE EKETAHUNA BUSINESS FIRMS. Eketahuna business firms are noted for their enterprise and the up-to-date stocks contained in their premises is evidence of this. There is no necessity now —nor has there been for some time past—for Eketahuna residents to go beyond their own town for any of their requirements. There are fresh, clean stocks on every hand and at prices that must appeal. Consequently other towns can no longer claim to be able to sell better or cheaper goods than those to be found in the shops of Eketahuna. In addition, there is excellent service given and firms are particularly attentive to the requirements of their customers. FOOTBALL SEASON INTEREST IN THE GAME. The football season in the Bush District promises to be more interesting than usual owing to the fact that Woodville teams will now compete in the competitions. Though the war will doubtless deplete the ranks of many clubs there are young players coming along who will be able to "carry on" until at least the "call to arms” comes. Always noted for their splendid forwards. the Bush team should, despite the war, be able to uphold its reputation this season.! The suggestion is being made in some quarters that more matches between Wairarapa and Bush Clubs should be played if representative fixtures are curtailed. The war. has already taken a heavy toll of Eketahuna footballers who have joined up. but it is still hoped to keep the local football flag flying.
