AIR BASES
ESTABLISHED BY SOVIET IN SIBERIA AMERICA'S WATCHFUL REGARD. I PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT IN ALASKA. I By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. WASHINGTON. April 21. The Associated Press of America says it is understood the army has confirmed that Russia has established air and naval bases on the Siberian coast under' 100 miles from the American-owned Aleutian Islands. It is believed that the army high command here takes the attitude that the bases are designed' primarily against a possible Japanese attack on Siberia, but they are unable to assume that the establishments would never be used against the United Stales. Reports have been revived that the army will request an appropriation to construct an air base al Anchorage. Alaska.
The Secretary of the Interior. Mr. Ickes, is backing a campaign to bring in legislation to colonise Alaska with Ssandinavian and other refugees.
