She raced to the front at end of a furlong and was closely attended right through the running by Ashaway, Wild Career and Mona's Song, with Night Wings bringing up the rear. There was no pace on till the last half-mile, and into the straight Peony Rose was still in charge from Wild Career. Ashaway and Mona's Song, and Night Wings still last. Peony Rose was always going) well in the straight, and she stayed on to beat Ashaway by a length and a half. Wild Career was beaten into third place and Mona's Song was next. Night Wings endeavoured to give the leaders a big start over the last halfmile, but she had no chance of doing so. The honours of the race were with the winner. Decisive win for Night Dress. The Waimate Cup on Saturday was won in a decisive manner by Night Dress, who was sent out at liberal odds. He was well placed over the early stages, but lost his position passing the half-mile and was well back from the leaders entering the straight. Swordstick shook off Studley Royal early in the run home and.appeared to be in for a comfortable win .but Night Dress finishing wide out. bore down on him nearing the post and beat him going away. Clierokee impressed by his third placing, boating Hanlon. Lazybones and Vanity Queen, who were in lino, by a head. Sporting Gift Runs Well. The Flaxbourne Handicap al the Marlborough Racing Club's meeting on Saturday produced a keen contest, in which Sporting Gift prevailed.
