PHYSICAL FITNESS
MOVEMENT IN MASTERTON. PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN IN BOWLS. Classes in Recreational Leadership and keep-fit work under the instruction of Miss Noeline Thomson, Recreation Officer of the Physical Welfare and Recreation branch, will commence in Masterton shortly. It is hoped by the instructor that all women's organisations in Masterion will take advantage of these classes, and ensure that they have at least two representatives taking the Recreation Leaders course in order to use these members lo widen the scope of their own programme and to increase (he number of women participating in recreational activities. It is of interest to the women of Masterton to note that plans lor the procuring 01 more facilities for women in Wellington lo play bowls, were made at a recent meeting convened by Miss N. Thomson. Recreation Officer of the Physical Welfare and Recreation branch. Department of Internal Affairs, which is sponsoring a movement to interest more women in the North Island in the game. This is part of the branch’s general plan to obtain great-, et participation in recreation by women. About twenty women were present and it. was decided that an Association be formed to promote the sport as a summer recreation for women. Other meetings arc to be hold Ind a definite policy adopted. There are already several clubs in the North Island will) women members, including Auckland. New Plymouth, Feilding, Port Ahuriri. Waikaremoana, Palmerston North, CastleclitT, Paraparaumu, Hastings and Upper Hutt. Prospects of obtaining the use of the present club greens when they are not in use by the men members are being investigated, and every attempt made to interest women in the project.
