ADMIRAL SCHEER
STORY OF ATTACK BY BRITISH SUBMARINE TOLD DY MEMBERS OF CREW. IMPACT OF TORPEDOES HEARD. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. April 18. When the submarine Spearfish reached port the crew were in high spirits and related how they torpedoed the German pocket-battleship Admiral Scheer. "We were previously severely attacked with depth charges and also attacked three times from the air, and we were out to get out own back,” said one. "We sighted the Admiral Scheer and thought she was a destroyer, but she came on at high speed and revealed her identity, whereupon we went into action. We heard the impact of torpedoes hitting the Admiral Scheer, but did not wait to see the result. It was a wonderful opportunity, because we did not know Nazi warships were out. It seems incredible that the Admiral Scheer could reach port.”
