POPPY DAY
RECORD SALE RECORDED IN MASTERTON PROCEEDS WELL OVER £2OO. MOST GRATIFYING RESPONSE. The sale of poppies in Masterton yesterday, with several small returns to come in, amounted to well over £2OO. This amount is greater than last year's collection and constitutes a record. The committee of the R.S.A., in view of the many calls which have been made on the public purse for patriotic purposes felt dubious of the response to the sale of poppies this year. The secretary, Mr A. E. Prentice, stated this morning that it- was most pleasing to the association to note that those fears were unfounded. The association wished to thank Mrs T. "Jordan and her workers for the efficient way in which they conducted the campaign. Special thanks were due to Messrs Hugo and Shearer Ltd., and the W.F.C.A. for fai cilities for the poppy stalls. The as-.« sociation also wishes to acknowledge Xi donation of six dozen Gladioli bulbs from Mr W. J. Barker. The campaign was conducted by the following: North end of town, Mrs F. Reynolds, Misses P. From early yesterday morning, members of the Carterton Women's Institute worked hard in selling poppies for the local branch of the R.S.A. Twelve hundred and fifty poppies were allocated to the branch and it is pleasing to note that through, the untiring efforts of the ladies every poppy was sold, resulting in the return of £62 10s.

WELLINGTON TOTAL EXPECTED TO EXCEED £2OOO. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. With some returns still to come, about £l3OO had been collected by last night as a result of the Poppy Day appeal in Wellington yesterday. It is expected that the total raised will exceed £2OOO. DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, April 19. The annual Poppy Day collection in Dunedin realised £1542 9s Bd, an increase of £9B 13s 6d over the record amount collected last year. There are still several amounts to come to hand. .AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND. April 19. Returned soldiers’ funds will benefit by more than £2224 as the result of the Poppy Day appeal. With four returns to come, last year’s record total of £2229 will be exceeded. PAHIATUA. PAHIATUA, April 19. With several country collections still to come in. the amount raised by the Poppy Day appeal in Pahiatua is approximately £4O. This sum exceeds lost year's collection. PALMERSTON NORTH. PALMERSTON NORTH, April 19. Poppy Day sales in Palmerston North were a record —£338. compared with £294 last year.
