Record Potato Crop. What is believed to be a record in' this district for potatoes is accredited to Mr. Godon Mclsaac, a well-known potato grower. Potatoes weighing four to five pounds each were dug up, and it is considered to be the most prolific crop of potatoes ever grown in this district. The stalks in most cases measured eight feet. Mr. J. Hutchison a few years back also produced a wonderful crop which on the whole did not measure up to the results gained by Mr. Mclsaac. School Committee. The annual meeting of householders wil be held in the school on Monday evening. It does not appear from present indications that new aspirants for a seat on the committee will be forthcoming. At any rate it is quite obvious that parents in this district do not take enough interest in the welfare of the school and it has been left to a few enthusiasts for a number of years to administer the affairs of the school, and one member has given service on the committee for over twenty years and another for sixteen years. It is hoped that parents will turn up in large numbers on Monday night. Personal Items. Mr Stan Mclntosh, who has been in-, disposed for the past fortnight, is pro-: grossing favourably. Mr. and Mrs. J. Sexton, who have been staying at the Ferry, have returned to Invercargill. Miss Edie, who was staying with her sister, Mrs. Mclsaac, has returned to Blenheim. Mr. and Mrs O'Brien. Masterton, have taken up their residence in this district. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smith, with Mrs and Miss McKenzie (Featherston) visited Wellington on Wednesday. Mr. Smith attended the dairy managers' conference. Ducks and Swans Plentiful. Ducks and swans are very plentiful in the lagoons in this district, but unfortunately conditions will not be favourable for the opening of the shooting season as the lake outlet is still closed and the water is backing up fast which will considerably hamper shooters from getting near their “possies" unless by boat. It was hoped that an | attempt to open the outlet before the opening of the shooting season would be made but conditions at present are totally adverse for the project. Gun Club Meeting. The South Wairarapa Gun Club will hold a clay bird competition at the Lake Ferry on April 27. when it is expected that shooters of note will attend. Nicol Cup. Mr N. Hume won outright the Nicol Cup for the huntaway class at the recent dog trials at Martinborough. Southerly Gale. A raging southerly gale accompanied by heavy rain is being experienced in this district today. _ _
