GOLF CLUB ‘ — ANNUAL MEETING HELD. j (“Times-Age” Special.) j Al the annual meeting of the lady ‘ members of the Martinborough Golt; Club the following officers were elect-' cd: Mesdames T. Knutson (captain), Baker, Moore, McConnell, Griffiths, and Miss M. C. Martin; secretary, Miss M. Harvey. Immediately following, the annual meeting of the men's section was held, when there was a good attendance. Mr W. G. Martin presided. Before commencing business Mr H W. Blundell, president, spoke of the great loss the club had sustained in the death of Mrs W. J. Martin, and moved a motion of condolence with the family. Those present stood as a mark oi respect. Two new members.were elected ano several resignations received. fhe annual report recorded that the membership was: Ladies, 36 full. 2 lite, 6‘country and 2 juniors; men, 54 full, 1 life and 7 country members. The ladies played and won 1 match, and the men 6 matches and won 4. The thanks of the club were due to Mr jG. LSkivers for the gift of a memorial challenge cup. The balance sheet showed a credit of £lO 7s 7d on the year’s working. Officers elected were:—Patron, Mrs G. Pain; president. Miss M. C. Marlin; vice-presidents, Mr and Mrs H. W. Blundell, Messrs F. Wall, J. Martin, A. F. Harding, J. D. McDougall, and H. L. Griffiths; club captain, Mr J. T. Pike; vice-captain, Mr V. Rankine; committee, Messrs J. Martin, W. G. Martin, S. W. Martin, K. Arthur, J. Wall, C. Moore, and A. F. Harding; secretary, Mr H. F. Harvey; auditor, Mr K. Arthur. It was resolved as a recommendation to the incoming committee that any member of the club on service be an honorary member for the duration of the war, and the fees, if paid, of future members going on service be refunded. Opening day was fixed for Saturday, April 20.

FARMERS’ UNION BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING. A meeting of the Martinborough branch of the Farmers' Union was held yesterday, Mr A. B. Martin presiding over a fair attendance of members. Correspondence was received from head office regarding the price of fencing wire at £4O per ton. It was pointed out by a member that two days ago he had been quoted £4B per ton. It was considered that at these prices fencing was prohibitive. The question of standardising manure sacks at 16 to the ton was agreed to, providing the cost was not increased. . The secretary presented the financial statement to date which showed that al the end of April, there would be an excess of income over expenditure, a position achieved for the first time in many years. It was stated that the overdraft would be about £2OO less than that of last year. ■ The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr A. B. Martin (re-elect-ed >; vice-president, Mr F. Alpe; executive committee. Messrs W. H. Corfield, F. B. Wright, A. McPherson, A. Sutherland, E. Trounson, A. McLeod, W. George, W. J. Donovan, A. Linton, and W. B. Martin; provincial executive, Messrs A. B. Martin, W. B. Martin, A. Linton and W. J. Donovan; delegates to the Inter-provincial conference to be held at Wanganui, Messrs Alpe and A. B. Martin. . . The remit from the Tinui subbranch, favouring the protection of ferrets, stoats, etc., was adopted.
