NEED OF SPEEDING UP ALLIED HELP URGED BY LONDON “TIMES.” ITALY & RUSSIA WAITING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, April 17. “The Times” says:— “All the news reaching official quarters in London shows that time is running short in Norway. Norwegians here declare that everything depends on the dispatch of speedy and effective Allied help, not merely in the narrow strip of north Norway, but in the south-west, where the Germans are fortifying positions. “Neutrals are sharply watching all moves for better or for worse.” The news from Italy and Russia, “The Times” stated, showed that both countries would probably shape their policies when they saw how events in Norway were turning. GERMAN REPORT MORE ALLEGED SUCCESSES. • Received This Day. 10.25 a.m.) BERLIN. April 18. A German High Command communique says: “British forces on April 17 attempted to land at Herjan Fiord, near Elvegard. but were repulsed.” It adds: "The British air attack at Trondheim was unsuccessful. British naval forces shelled Stavanger from long range and damaged four aeroplanes. Our Air Force attacked British naval units and sank the cruiser already announced. It also registered direct hits on a destroyer, light cruiser and heavy cruiser. One listed heavily. “Our advance continues in the Oslo district and our troops are advancing north from Kongsvinger. “The Air Force attacked two Norwegian torpedo-boats. One went ashore and was abandoned."
