CAMPAIGN IN NORWAY

LANDING OF BRITISH TROOPS CONTINUES More Smashing Attacks by Fleet Air Arm . and R.A.F. NUMBER OF ENEMY MACHINES DESTROYED OR DAMAGED GERMAN AIMS IN SOUTHERN SECTOR A communique issued by the War Office states that the landing of British troops in Norway is continuing’. Contact had been secured with the Norwegian forces and operations are proceeding. The successful operation in Norway of aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm is reported in an Air Ministry communique. German aircraft which attempted to attack British naval forces after the bombardment of Stavanger were repeatedly engaged by the Fleet Air Arm. One German Heinkel and one Dornier were shot down and two more Heinkels and Dorniers damaged. All our aircraft returned safely. On Tuesday a machine of the Fleet Air Arm off Bergen sank a troopship and scored a hit on a submarine. The British cruiser which was hit by a bomb has now reached its base. A few hours after the naval bombardment R.A.F. bombers again attacked Stavanger Aerodrome. Heavy bombers went over in two waves and were seen to hit a runway and two transport aircraft parked at the edge of the field. Several planes on the ground were destroyed and two German fighters are believed to have been shot down. The Air Ministry communique states that the R.A.F. also attacked at several other points on the Norwegian coast. From the scraps of information about the fighting in Norway in messages of Norwegian and other origin, there appears to be little change in the position in “the southern part of the country. In the centre, the Germans are trying to establish themselves at Trondheim and to secure the railway from Trondheim to the Swedish border.
