COSY THEATRE. FRIDAY,' Saturday, Monday: "TELEVISION SPY,” a thrilling story of the great spy ring and their plans to steal the world’s most amazing invention —starring Wm. Henry, Judith Barrett, Anthony Quinn and a large cast. The associate feature is ‘•NIGHT WORK,” a further comedy riot of the Fitch Family, with Charlie Ruggles, Mary Boland, Donald O'Connor, etc. Also screening is chapter 3 of the "Buck Rogers” serial. The Baby Contest will continue during the week. TUESDAY, Wednesday: Grand return of the magnificent ‘‘THE 39 STEPS,” one of the greatest successes by that fine actor, Robert Donat, who stars with beautiful Madeleine Carroll. The companion feature is "THANK YOU MR MOTO,” one of the most exciting of this great series, starring Peter Lorre, Jane Regan and Pauline Frederick. It’s exciting action will hold patrons in suspense from first to last. REGENT THEATRE. SATURDAY. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: “BEAU GESTE” (starring Gary Cooper, Ray Milland. Robert Preston and a cast of thousands) in P. C. Wren’s famous story of the Foreign Legion. As great a picture as the screen has to offer, its spectacle is on a gigantic scale, wastes of rolling desert, wandering Arab marauders who appear and vanish amongst the dunes of the scorching Sahara, the thrill of adventure, and the appeal of brotherly love combine to make its greatness. No one should miss seeing this truly thrilling and magnificent adventure romance. Featurettes Include the latest Air Mail News, a Popeye Cartoon and a superb rendition of the "Merry Wives of Windsor,” overture by the National Philharmonic Orchestra ofi U.S.A. An outstanding programme in every way. THURSDAY, Anzac Day: No screening. FRIDAY: "YES MY DARLING DAUGHTER," Warner Bros, delightfully frank and frankly delightful story of a modern miss, starring Priscilla Lane, Jeffrey Lynn, Roland Young and a grand cast. It has all the family charm and serenity of “Four Daughters,” being beautifully balanced and refreshingly original. May Robson, that grand artist, has a delightful role as the mischievous but understanding "Granny.”
STATE THEATRE. TONIGHT (Friday): A new length streamlined comedy, “CHUMP AT OXFORD,” with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Produced by Hal Roach and released through United Artists. This riotous show sets a new standard in comedy. Also screening is ‘‘THE REBEL SON,” with the great continental star, Harry Baur. A striking drama of Czarist Russia. TUESDAY NEXT: The programme will commence at 7.30 and will include five featurettes and two excellent first-rate features. (1) Gordon Harker and John Lodge in “LIGHTNING CONDUCTOR” and (2) Richard Dix and Gail Patrie in “RENO.” FRIDAY NEXT: The eagerly awaited “HOLLYWOOD CAVALCADE,” filmed entirely in new gorgeous technicolour. The romance of Hollywood from bathing beauties to world premieres, starring Alice Faye. Don Ameche and a huge cast.
