COUNTY AFFAIRS
WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNCIL. MEETING AT CARTERTON. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held in the County Chambers, Carterton, this morning, Mr D. McGregor, County chairman, presiding. There were also present: Councillors A. E'. Reid, E. W. Allen, Ross Gallon, C. A. Cameron, F. Court, A. McGregor and J. K. Strang. An apology for absence was received from Councillor W. A. Renall. Arising out of the minutes was the question of the housing scheme, which was dealt with by a special committee, which reported it had come to the decision that the matter would be best left to the Department to deal with. The treasurer’s statement, showed a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £5507 18s 2d. Accounts amounting to £1951 19s 4d were passed. It was resolved that a special meeting of councillors be held on May 2 to
consider the estimates for the current year, the overseer and engineer also to be present. ’ It was decided that 100 cement fencing posts be procured and kept it) county yards in case of emergency. The council was thanked by the residents of Park Road for the extension of the footpath from borough boundary to Rutland Road on the eastern side. Thanks and appreciation were accorded Mr Daysh, of Mangatcrerc Valley Road, for his work in putting out fires on the bridges during the recent heavy fire that raged over the hills.
